The Friends of St Laurence Church

fr

The Friends of St Laurence is a registered charity whose aim is to provide financial support to secure the fabric of the church so that it survives as both a spiritual and a cultural asset at the centre of our village for future generations to enjoy.  During the past 30 years The Friends have raised over £100,000 at times when the Church has needed financial help to prevent it from falling into disrepair.

Many villagers use the church for weddings, baptisms, and funerals as well as regular worship; we are lucky to have a familiar place on our doorstep we can call our own, where we can come together with family and friends to celebrate such life events.

The church has also been successfully used to host concerts and other cultural events and is generally available for this type of activity. If you are amongst the many people in the village that have either used the church, in the past or hope to use it in the future, please consider joining us by becoming a Friend.

Since a new Friends Committee was formed in January 2020, The Friends have been raising money with the support of subscription members, fundraising events, and charitable trust grants.

Money raised by the Friends is solely used for the preservation of the church building and its curtilage.  Running costs are not in their remit.

There is much to do, indeed, preserving such an ancient building is a never-ending process.  Costs have risen significantly in recent years and quotes quickly become updated, so it remains a challenge to balance timely fundraising with fast moving prices.
